How to Wear Long Hair When Sleeping / Bedtime

This is how I like to wear my hair for bed. Super sexy, right?!

The Stay-in Swimming, Working Out, Etc. Bun

This is the perfect bun for times when you absolutely cannot mess with your hair. Great for swimming, working out, physical stuff, and possibly even headbanging

Instructions:
Make a ponytail at the crown using a non-metal pony elastic. Braid the length and tie off with another ponytail elastic if you wish or leave the ends loose. Twist the length and wrap around the ponytail base like a cinnamon bun. Secure with 2 or 3 strong claw clips that have a tight spring. Be sure to grab hair from the scalp and the bun with each claw clip then squeeze it closed.

If you plan to swim in chlorinated water or salt water you should wet your hair first and put in lots of silicone conditioner to protect it from the pool/ocean. Fresh water found in lakes is ok for hair, so no need to protect it from that.

A good conditioner is L'Oreal Mega Moisture in the yellow tub from Sally's Beauty Supply or Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner found at drug stores like Walgreen's and CVS.

Buffs (made popular on the show Survivor) can be found here.

My dog Chloe makes a cameo appearance. See if you can spot her.

Center Held Bun

How to secure your hair with an accessory you have outgrown. This works for Ficcares or other brand beak clips, hair forks, claw clips, and maybe other types of hair toys.

Instructions:
Gather your hair for a ponytail at the nape. Twist the length and lift it straight up over your head. Twist tightly so you have a good foundation for the clip. Insert the hair toy near the base. Twist extra length and wrap it around the base like a cinnamon bun. Tuck in the ends and secure with a hair pin (I like Good Hair Days Magic Grip Pins) if needed.

French Twist for Long Hair (Knee Length)

Cinnamon Hair's French Twist for long hair. This style works on my knee length hair but it should be doable for almost any length.

    Tools used:
  • Ficcare Maximas large
  • Hair sticks
  • 4 prong hair fork
  • Good Hair Days plastic pins

Instructions:
Gather hair for a ponytail. Do not secure. Fold the length in half as many times as necessary until it fits the back of your head. Use both hands to twist the clump of hair toward one side of your head. Smooth as you twist. Secure with your choice of accessory. Ficcare maximas or 4 prong hair fork is more stable than hair sticks for me. I use Good Hair Days pins to catch any falling pieces.

Knee Length Hair Flinging / Flipping

Bonus: while flinging my hair I can clean the ceiling. Watch with volume turned up so you can hear it!

I was trying to get some good action pics of my hair, but still shots were too difficult to capture myself, so I decided to film it instead.

Oh, and my wall isn't dirty; that's the paint job. First it was painted white then I went over it with a rag dipped in gray/silver making swirl patterns. I know, in the videos it just looks dirty. I promise it looks better in person.

Celtic Knot Updo Demonstration

This is my favorite bun. It is pictured often on my updos page.

The most important tip in making this bun, is for your loop to be as tight as comfortably possible. You'll see I like to wrap the beginning loop of hair around 3 fingers with my pinky sticking out; some people use 2. Just don't use your whole hand or wrist and you'll be fine. A loose wrap will make the whole updo unstable.

Detangling

Combing knee length hair. Using a seamless comb to detangle is A MUST! I like the 8L and 5 Creative combs from Tenderheaded.com Usually I look at my hair while detangling, but I was trying to give the camera a good angle.
